💡 Definitions

Work light vs site light vs floodlight vs festoon

Plain definitions — when each one is the right choice.

Work light

Compact LED on a tripod. One room or zone. Everyday pick for trades.

Site light / floodlight

Higher-output LED for sites. Wider wash via 110V transformer or battery.

Lighting tower

Tall mast (3.1m in our range). Plot, yard or car-park scale.

Temporary / construction lighting

Temporary lighting hire is the umbrella term for short-term lighting on building sites, events and renovation work. Includes work lights, floodlights and lighting towers — most of our range fits here.

⚡ Quick answer

For most London jobs: a 30W LED tripod on 110V covers a single zone. Two zones → 60W twin-head. No mains → cordless LED tripod. Whole plot or yard → cordless lighting tower.

🛠 Best for

Six common jobs — and the light most people pick

01

Refurb in an empty flat

One or two rooms in play. 30W tripod covers it.

Pick: 30W tripod or twin-head
02

Loft / second fix

Tight spaces. Tilt-head tripod usually wins.

Pick: 30W tripod (tilt)
03

Garden room / extension

No mains? Cordless LED tripod skips the cable run.

Pick: cordless LED tripod
04

Driveway, yard or car park

Wide area, height helps. The 3.1m tower is the simplest answer.

Pick: cordless lighting tower
05

Late-shift snagging

Quick checks after dark. Cordless tripod sets up in seconds.

Pick: cordless LED tripod
06

Garage / workshop / warehouse

Bays next to vehicles. Cordless tripods slot in cleanly.

Pick: cordless or twin-head

⚖ Compare

Head to head — four common choices

30W vs 60W twin-head

30W single: compact, single zone.

60W twin-head: two heads, double spread.

Two trades or rooms over ~30m² → twin-head.

Mains 110V vs cordless

Mains 110V: lower daily hire, all-day on a transformer.

Cordless: no cable, fast to move, runtime varies.

Mains where there is power; cordless where speed matters.

Tripod vs lighting tower

Tripod: ~1.6–2m, room or zone scale.

Tower: 3.1m mast, plot or yard scale.

Walk-through area without tripping → tower.

Floodlight vs task light

Floodlight: wide, even spread.

Task light: closer, surface detail.

Tilt a 30W tripod close to a wall — instant task light.

💷 Cost factors

What affects lighting hire cost?

Daily and weekly rates, ex-VAT. Five things move the price.

Output & format

30W tripods sit at the entry. Twin-head and cordless step up. Tower sits at the top — higher-output cordless format.

Hire duration

Daily is highest per day. Weekly wins from three days+. Long projects → quote on request.

Number of units

One zone = one light. Bigger plots or two-shift jobs may need two or more — we will recommend the cleanest combo.

📍

Pickup or delivery

Pickup from Greenford UB6 keeps it cleanest. London delivery available, postcode-based.

Power source

✅ Pre-hire checklist

Twelve points to check before booking

  1. Area size and rough shape?
  2. Indoor, outdoor, or mixed?
  3. 110V power on site, or 240V only?
  4. How many work zones at once?
  5. Hours of light per day?
  6. Will the light move room to room?
  7. Stairs, narrow doors or a lift on the route?
  8. Anyone working overhead?
  9. Left unattended outdoors?
  10. Wide wash or raking angle?
  11. Floor space for a tripod, or a tower?
  12. Date and time you need it ready?

❓ Questions

Lighting hire — questions we hear every week

Do I need 110V power, or can I plug into a normal socket?

Tripod floodlights labelled 110V are designed for site transformers and are commonly used on UK construction sites. If only domestic 240V is on site, tell us first and we will steer you to a cordless model. Confirm power setup before booking.

How long do the cordless lights run on one charge?

Runtime varies with battery and brightness. Lower brightness = longer runtime. We will share the manufacturer figure for the model in our range when you book — confirm before relying on it for a specific shift.

Are the lights LED?

Yes — every light in this category is LED. We focus on LED work light hire because it runs cooler, draws less power and is easier to handle than halogen or fluorescent.

What is the difference between a tripod and a lighting tower?

A tripod sits at head-height for a room or zone. A lighting tower is taller — the cordless tower in our range extends to about 3.1m — for plot or yard scale.

Are the lights suitable for outdoor use?

Some lighting products may be suitable for outdoor use, depending on the model. Exact ingress and weather rating depends on the unit. Confirm indoor/outdoor suitability before booking — we will share the manufacturer specification on request.

Do you deliver outside London?

Yes — site lighting hire across most London postcodes and into nearby home counties. Longer routes quoted per postcode, with London delivery by booking. Greenford UB6 collection is always an option.

Can I hire just for a single day?

Yes. Daily hire is offered on every light. From three days+, the weekly rate is usually better value — we will show both prices side by side.

What if the job runs longer than I booked?

Call us before the return time and we will extend. We would much rather extend by a day than have the kit come back when the job is not finished.

Can two trades share one twin-head tripod?

That is exactly what the twin-head is for. Each head tilts independently — popular for kitchens, bathrooms and small open-plan rooms.

Can you help me pick if I am not sure?

Send a photo of the area and a one-line description. We will recommend a light from our range — and tell you which one we would not pick, and why.
