Walls, masonry & tiles

SDS Max demolition hammers for non-structural wall removal, tile removal, chasing and masonry breakout.

Light & controlled work

Light SDS Max breakers for finishing demolition, plaster removal and controlled chiselling on hard surfaces.

Drilling support

Rotary hammers and drills are listed in this category as supporting tools — for fixings and holes, not heavy demolition.

Breaker hire London for concrete break-up, demolition and masonry removal. Hireload's range covers concrete breaker hire, SDS Max breaker hire (light and medium demolition hammers in the SDS Max class — sometimes searched as Kango hammer hire) and heavy-duty electric breaker hire for tougher concrete, slabs and asphalt where suitable. Many site breakers are 110V and may need a transformer when used from 240V mains — check the product page and confirm power setup when booking.

Common applications include concrete slab breaker hire, tile removal breaker hire, masonry breakout and trench cutting. Drills, rotary hammers, diamond core and magnetic drills also appear in this category as supporting tools for fixings and holes — see Breaking & Drilling for the full range. Pair a breaker with a site vacuum for dust pickup or with our floor cleaning range for post-demolition clean-up. London delivery is available by booking and you can collect free from our Greenford UB6 depot. Not sure which class fits the job? Call 020 3375 4048 — we'll help you choose a suitable breaker and accessory setup based on the material, depth and access on site.

What are you breaking or drilling?

Match the material and job to the right starting machine. If the path lands somewhere else, we link directly so you don't get stuck.

Concrete slabs

Concrete slab, driveway or asphalt

Best: Heavy-duty electric concrete breaker; many site breakers are 110V and may need a transformer.

Concrete slab breaker hire for driveways, hardstanding and outdoor breakout where suitable.

Check material thickness, access and transformer setup. Reinforced concrete may need cutting, specialist assessment or additional tools — ask before booking.

Walls · Masonry

Non-structural walls & masonry breakout

Best: SDS Max demolition hammer (110V) — light or medium

Non-structural wall removal, brickwork breakout and chasing for SDS Max breaker hire jobs.

Confirm the wall is non-structural before starting. Ask which chisel is available for your machine — pointed or flat depending on the surface.

Tile removal

Tile, plaster or screed removal

Best: Light SDS Max demolition hammer

Tile removal breaker hire for bathroom, kitchen and commercial floors before re-screeding or new flooring.

Watch for underfloor heating, pipework and electrical chasing. Wide flat / scaling chisel if available — confirm when booking.

Light & controlled

Light internal demolition & chasing

Best: Light SDS Max breaker (sometimes searched as Kango hammer)

Controlled removal, plaster, brickwork and finish demolition where heavier breakers would be too aggressive.

Use ear, eye, dust and hand PPE. Take vibration breaks (HAVS) on longer jobs.

Drilling support

Holes for fixings or services

Best: Rotary hammer or percussion drill — not a demolition breaker

For drilling, see the full Breaking & Drilling range. A demolition breaker is the wrong tool for clean holes.

Correct masonry bit if available — confirm when booking. Cable/pipe check before drilling walls or floors.

Ask first

Hidden services or unknown structure

Best: Ask before booking

Walls or floors that may contain electrical cables, water or gas pipes, or carry structural load.

Use a cable/pipe detector first. For structural questions, consult a qualified contractor or engineer before any breaking work.

Frequently asked questions

Ten quick answers London hirers ask before booking a breaker.

What breaker do I need for concrete?

For concrete slabs, driveways and asphalt, hire a heavy-duty electric concrete breaker where suitable. For concrete walls, screed or thinner sections, an SDS Max demolition hammer (light or medium) is usually enough. Reinforced concrete may need cutting, specialist assessment or additional tools — ask before booking. Tell us the material thickness and area and we'll help you choose a suitable breaker class.

What's the difference between SDS Plus and SDS Max?

SDS Plus is the smaller, more common shank — suited to drills and lighter rotary hammers for holes and fixings. SDS Max is the larger shank used on heavier breakers and demolition hammers. Many breaker products use SDS Max, while many drilling tools use SDS Plus. Check the product page or ask before booking.

Do I need a transformer?

Many site breakers are 110V and may require a transformer when used from 240V mains. Check the product page and confirm power setup when booking — let us know if you need a transformer so we can include it where available.

Is 110V or 240V better?

110V is commonly used on UK construction sites and may be required by site rules. 240V may be suitable for domestic or indoor work where allowed. Confirm your site requirements before booking — call 020 3375 4048 if you're unsure which suits your site.

Can I break tiles with a heavy breaker?

You can, but it's usually overkill — a heavy duty road breaker can damage the substrate or pipework underneath. A light SDS Max breaker with a wide flat or scaling chisel is normally the right tool for tile removal.

Are chisels included with the breaker?

Tell us the chisel type you need — pointed, flat or scaling — when booking, and we'll confirm what is available with the machine. We don't list specific chisels as standard inclusions on every breaker, so it's worth asking first. Consumables and fixings may be required separately.

How heavy is a road breaker?

Our heavy duty road breaker is in the heavier electric class — exact weight depends on the chisel fitted. Lighter and medium SDS Max breakers sit around the 11 kg class. Plan two-person handling for the heavy duty breaker on stairs or awkward access.

How do I avoid hidden cables, pipes or gas?

Use a cable/pipe detector before any breaking or drilling. Check service plans where available, and avoid working close to known cable runs, gas lines and water pipes. If you are unsure, stop and consult a qualified contractor — never break blind.

Can I hire a breaker in London?

Yes. We offer breaker hire London-wide — concrete breaker hire, heavy-duty electric breaker hire, SDS Max breaker hire (light and medium demolition hammers, sometimes searched as Kango hammer hire) and 110V breaker hire London. London delivery is available by booking and free collection from our Greenford UB6 depot. Out-of-zone delivery on request.

Can I collect from Greenford UB6?

Yes. Book ahead and pick up free from our Greenford UB6 depot during opening hours. Bring suitable transport — a heavy duty road breaker is awkward to lift solo.

Need help choosing a suitable breaker?

Tell us what you need to break — material, area, depth and access — plus the hire dates. We'll help you choose a suitable breaker class, voltage and accessory setup for the job.
