Light Breaker Hire London | 110V SDS Max Demolition Hammer
Best for: controlled demolition where precision and manoeuvrability matter more than raw breaking force. A light breaker is the right choice for wall chasing, conduit routes, tile removal and refurbishment work in concrete, blockwork and masonry — especially in confined areas where a heavier machine would be awkward or cause collateral damage.
- 110V SDS Max demolition hammer — site-ready for transformer-supplied power
- Ideal for: chasing, chiselling, light concrete repairs and internal alterations
- Compact and controllable — easier to handle on vertical surfaces and overhead work than medium or heavy breakers
- Kerbside delivery and collection across London
This is the lightest breaker in the Hireload range, designed for jobs where clean control matters more than maximum impact. If you need to chase channels for services, break out small sections of blockwork, or remove tiles and plaster without damaging surrounding finishes, this is the tool.
Steels are available separately. Tell us what you are breaking and we will recommend the right chisel type for your material and finish requirement.
What is a light breaker used for?
A light breaker sits at the precision end of the demolition hammer range. It delivers enough impact to break concrete, block and masonry, but with significantly less weight and vibration than a medium or heavy machine. This makes it practical for indoor work, edges, vertical surfaces and any job where over-breaking would create more problems than it solves.
Typical applications
- Wall chasing — cutting channels for electrical conduits, plumbing and service runs
- Concrete and block repairs — breaking out small damaged sections in refurbishment and maintenance work
- Tile and surface removal — stripping floor tiles, wall tiles and plaster where the substrate needs to remain intact
- Internal alterations — removing non-structural blockwork, opening up doorways and creating access points
If the material is thicker than roughly 150 mm of reinforced concrete or you are working on a slab or road surface, step up to a medium duty breaker or heavy road breaker instead.
How this compares to other breakers in the range
| Machine | Class | Fitting | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Light Breaker — DeWalt 110V SDS Max (this page) | Light | SDS Max | Wall chasing, chiselling, light concrete repairs, tile removal |
| Medium Duty Breaker — SDS Max | Medium | SDS Max | General concrete and masonry demolition, floor breaking |
| Bosch GSH 11 E — SDS Max | Medium | SDS Max | Verified Bosch performance for concrete and blockwork |
| Rotary Hammer — Bosch GBH 11 DE | Medium / Rotary | SDS Max | Combined drilling and breaking — anchor holes, core paths |
| Heavy Duty Road Breaker | Heavy | Hex / Spade | Road surfaces, thick slabs, heavy structural demolition |
Not sure which breaker you need? The comparison above shows the full range. For most indoor refurbishment and chasing work, the light breaker on this page is the right starting point. Step up to medium if the material is thicker or you need more impact energy.
Steels and accessories
Steels are not included in the hire price unless agreed in advance. SDS Max chisels are available separately — match the chisel type to the material for the best result:
- Pointed chisel — general breaking and starting cuts in concrete or masonry
- Flat chisel — tile removal, surface stripping and cleaning edges
- Spade / channel chisel — chasing channels for services and conduit runs
A wear or sharpening charge may apply on steels used during the hire. If you are unsure which chisel type suits your job, ask when booking and we will advise.
Power and site notes
This breaker runs on 110V supply. On most construction sites, 110V is already available from a site transformer (CTE or centre-tapped earth system). If you only have 230V mains — for example on a domestic refurbishment where no transformer is on site — you will need a suitable step-down transformer. If you are unsure about your power setup, mention it when booking.
Use safe cable management to reduce trip hazards, and wear appropriate PPE including ear defenders, eye protection, dust mask and anti-vibration gloves.
Hire terms and return condition
- Steels: consumable items — excessive wear or damage beyond normal use may be chargeable
- Return condition: return reasonably clean. Heavy concrete residue may incur a cleaning charge
- Model note: you will receive a trade-grade DeWalt 110V SDS Max light breaker. The exact model may vary by unit available, but the hire class and capability remain consistent
Delivery, collection and hire terms
Kerbside delivery and collection is included on all breaker hires across the London area. Select your hire dates and delivery option at checkout. Day hire and weekly hire rates are available.
- Morning delivery, same-day or next-day collection
- Day hire or weekly hire rates
- Transformer hire available if you need 110V supply on a site without one
How does a light breaker differ from the medium and heavy machines?
A light breaker is designed for precision work — chasing, chiselling and light demolition in concrete, block and masonry. It weighs significantly less than a medium breaker and produces less impact energy, which means less vibration and more control. Choose the light breaker for indoor refurbishment, wall work, tile removal and conduit chasing. If you are breaking a concrete slab thicker than about 150 mm or working on a road surface, a medium or heavy breaker will be more efficient.
Do I need a transformer for this breaker?
This is a 110V tool. Most construction sites already have a 110V supply from a site transformer. If you are working on a domestic property or any location without a transformer, you will need one — Hireload can supply a suitable step-down transformer alongside the breaker hire. Do not connect a 110V tool directly to 230V mains.
What steels are included with the hire?
Steels are not included unless arranged in advance. SDS Max chisels are available separately. A pointed chisel suits general breaking, a flat chisel is better for tile and surface removal, and a spade or channel chisel works well for chasing service routes. A wear or sharpening charge may apply on steels returned with heavy use.
Is this breaker suitable for reinforced concrete?
It can handle light reinforced concrete and thin sections, but it is not designed for heavy reinforced slabs or structural demolition. For anything thicker than roughly 150 mm of reinforced concrete, step up to a medium duty breaker or Bosch GSH 11 E for significantly more impact energy.
Frequently asked questions
What is a light breaker used for?
Removing tiles, plaster, render, thin screeds, and light concrete. The DeWalt D25899K is designed for controlled demolition where a heavy breaker would be excessive or risk damaging surrounding structure. Common jobs include bathroom strip-outs, kitchen refits, and removing floor tiles before re-tiling.
Can it break thick concrete?
It will handle concrete up to approximately 75 mm thick, but it is not designed for breaking floors, foundations, or structural concrete. For thicker concrete, our medium breaker or heavy-duty road breaker will be significantly faster and more effective.
Is it light enough to use on walls?
Yes. At approximately 5.6 kg it is manageable for horizontal and even some overhead work. This makes it the right choice for removing wall tiles, chasing out render, and breaking out blockwork above waist height where heavier machines would cause fatigue quickly.
What chisels does it use?
SDS Max chisels. A pointed chisel is included for general breaking. Flat chisels are better for tile removal and floor scraping. Let us know your application when booking and we can supply the appropriate chisel.
How noisy is it compared to a heavy breaker?
Noticeably quieter than our heavy-duty breakers, though still loud enough to require ear protection. For residential work, it is the least disruptive breaker option we offer. Always wear hearing protection, eye protection, and gloves.
