Jet wash hire — quick guide

For cars and light cleaning, start with a lower-pressure electric pressure washer at 1,200–1,900 PSI. For patios and block paving, a 1,500–2,000 PSI jet wash is usually the starting point — Kärcher HD 5/11 or heavy-duty 240V. For driveways and concrete, choose the heavy-duty 240V machine where mains power is available, or the 2,450 PSI petrol pressure washer where no mains power is available.

Step 1 · Pressure guide

How much PSI do you actually need?

Four pressure bands, mapped to the most common pressure washer hire jobs.

Band A
1,200–1,500PSI

Light cleaning

Best for cars, bikes, garden furniture, light grime.

Machine Electric 240V pressure washer.

Use a wider fan nozzle and keep distance from paintwork.

Band B
1,500–2,000PSI

Patio & paving

Best for patios, slabs, paths, block paving.

Machine Kärcher HD 5/11 or heavy-duty 240V.

Start lower on softer stone and increase gradually.

Band C
2,000–2,450PSI

Driveways & concrete

Best for driveways, sealed concrete, heavier dirt.

Machine Heavy-duty 240V or 2,450 PSI petrol pressure washer if no mains power.

Pre-treat oil marks where needed. Results depend on surface, staining and detergent used.

Band D
2,450PSI

Heavy-duty / off-grid

Best for driveways, concrete, forecourts, site cleaning and large outdoor areas where no mains power is available.

Machine Petrol Pressure Washer 2450 PSI.

Outdoor use only; confirm water supply, fuel and runoff.

Tip Higher PSI is not automatically better. Soft stone, painted wood, old mortar and decorative finishes can be damaged at high pressure. When in doubt, hire the lower-pressure machine, test a small area first, and step up only if needed.
Step 2 · Choose by surface

What surface are you cleaning?

Each card shows the recommended PSI band and the matching machine.

Important Higher PSI is not always safer; soft stone, old mortar, paint and wood can be damaged. Always start with the lowest pressure suitable for the surface and step up only if needed. Test a small area first. Wear eye protection and never aim the lance at people, animals or electrical fixtures. Results depend on surface, dirt type and nozzle selection.
Step 6 · Budgeting

What affects pressure washer hire cost?

Live prices appear on each product card above. Here's what changes the figure.

Machine type

Electric, Kärcher trade, heavy-duty 240V and 2,450 PSI petrol all sit at different price points.

Hire duration

Daily, 2–7 day and weekly rates differ — longer hires usually drop the per-day cost.

Surface area

Larger driveways, forecourts and outdoor commercial sites often need a more powerful machine and a longer hire.

Delivery or collection

Delivered across London from our Greenford / UB6 operating area. Delivery and collection costs depend on postcode zone, access and route timing.

Accessories

Patio cleaner attachments, surface cleaners, longer hoses or specialised nozzles where required.

FAQs

Pressure washer hire — frequently asked questions

PSI selection, surface compatibility, costs and London delivery.

What PSI pressure washer do I need?
For cars and light cleaning, start with a lower-pressure electric pressure washer at 1,200–1,900 PSI. For patios and block paving, a 1,500–2,000 PSI machine is usually the starting point. For driveways and concrete, 2,000–2,450 PSI is the typical range — heavy-duty 240V where mains power is available, or the 2,450 PSI petrol pressure washer where it isn't. Higher PSI is not automatically better — always start lower and step up only if needed.
Should I hire electric or petrol?
Choose an electric (240V) pressure washer when you have mains power, want quiet operation and are working in a residential area. Choose the 2,450 PSI petrol pressure washer when there is no mains supply, when you need to move the machine freely on a site, or when the job needs higher pressure than a 240V machine can deliver.
Can I pressure wash a car?
Yes — but use a 240V electric pressure washer with a wide-angle (low-pressure) nozzle, keep the lance at least 30 cm from panels, and avoid 0° pinpoint nozzles entirely. Higher-PSI machines and narrow tips can damage paint, trim and seals.
Can I pressure wash decking and wood?
Yes, with care. Use 1,500–2,450 PSI with a wide tip, hold the lance 12–18 in from the surface and move with the grain. Soft woods can lift fibres if the pressure is too high or the nozzle too narrow. Test a small board first.
What about brick, render and old mortar?
Stay at 1,000–1,500 PSI and use a softer nozzle. Old or crumbling mortar joints can be damaged at high pressure — test a small area first and step up only if needed.
Do I need my own water supply?
Yes. Pressure washers need a water source — a standard outdoor tap is fine for most jobs. For commercial or off-grid sites without a tap, an IBC or water bowser can be used. Petrol machines also need their own fuel.
How much does pressure washer hire cost?
Daily prices are shown on each product card above this description. Cost depends on the machine, hire duration, surface area, delivery or collection, and any accessories needed. For an accurate price, choose a product or call 020 3375 4048 with the surface, area and dates.
Can I hire pressure washers in London?
Yes. London delivery is available by booking, with collection also available from our Greenford UB6 depot. Out-of-zone delivery is available on request — call us to confirm.
Is a petrol pressure washer safe to use indoors?
No — petrol units are for outdoor use only because of exhaust fumes. For indoor work or covered spaces, use a 240V electric machine with adequate ventilation and a power point nearby.
What safety equipment do I need?
Eye protection and closed-toe footwear at minimum. Never aim the lance at people, animals or electrical fixtures. Cover or close windows and remove obstacles from the cleaning area. Avoid 0° pinpoint nozzles where possible. Results depend on surface, dirt type and nozzle selection.
