Our 3T scaffold tower hire London service delivers an EN 1004 certified tower with 10.2 m working height and a 275 kg safe working load, built around the through-the-trapdoor method and available next-day across London.
Through-The-Trapdoor Build Method | EN 1004 Certified
The tower designed around the safest assembly sequence. Every section goes up from below, through the trapdoor, with the operator inside the guardrails before standing. 10.2m working height, 275kg SWL, single or double width.
The “3T” is the build method, not a brand. Through-The-Trapdoor is the sequence HSE points to as the safest way to assemble a mobile access tower: every section goes up from below, through the trapdoor, and the operator is inside the guardrails before they stand up. You never stand on an unprotected deck.
It’s a tower designed around a build sequence. Rung spacing is 250mm, the frames clip together without tools, and the trapdoor position is fixed so the next section always feeds through it. Max working height is 10.2m, with 275kg on the deck.
Available in single width (0.85m, the tight-access option) or double width (1.45m, when you need room for tools and a full work setup). Platforms come in 1.8m and 2.5m. Choose a combination from the options above, or call the hire desk to spec it with you.
How the 3T Build Method Works
1. Build from below
Each frame section is passed up through the trapdoor in the platform. The operator stays below the next deck level throughout.
2. Guardrails before standing
All four guardrails are installed to the upper platform before the operator climbs through. No unprotected deck at any point.
3. Repeat to full height
The sequence repeats for each lift. Guardrail height is 1,000mm with intermediate rail, 2m vertical between platforms. Stabilisers are added as the tower grows.
Available Working Heights
| Working Height | Platform Height (approx.) | Typical Application |
|---|---|---|
| 3.2m – 4.2m | 1.2m – 2.2m | Internal ceiling work, first-floor access, decorating |
| 4.7m – 6.2m | 2.7m – 4.2m | Two-storey internal and external, signage, fascia work |
| 6.7m – 8.2m | 4.7m – 6.2m | Three-storey facade, render work, upper-storey windows |
| 8.7m – 10.2m | 6.7m – 8.2m | High-level facade, commercial frontage, inspection work |
Working height = platform height + 2m (operator reach). Platform height is the actual standing level.

Best For
Facade & Render Work
Three-storey external rendering, cladding, and brickwork. The 3T method is the documented safe approach when build safety is a formal requirement.
First-Fix & Second-Fix
Electrical, plumbing, and mechanical installs on three-storey builds. Double width gives full working clearance around the trapdoor for tools and materials.
Window & Door Installs
Upper-storey window and door fitting where stable, levelled platform access beats ladder work. Single width fits tight runs between buildings.
Signage & Inspection
Sign and fascia installs at commercial frontages, and inspection or maintenance work where a documented safe build method is required.
How to Pick Your Configuration
Single Width (0.85m)
Access is tight, the tower has to sit close to a wall, or you only need operator plus tools on the deck.
Double Width (1.45m)
You need room for the trapdoor plus full working clearance, or two people need to pass each other. For dual climb, use Twin-Access.
1.8m Platform
Most jobs. Easier to manoeuvre, smaller stabiliser footprint, quicker to reposition between work points.
2.5m Platform
Long runs, laying out materials, working a horizontal stretch without moving the base. Ideal for rendering and cable runs.
When to Choose a Different Tower
Above 10.2m? Step up to the Twin-Access (up to 12.2m+, with two climb faces).
Sub-6m solo job? The MiTower or Miniscaff Solo are lighter and faster to deploy.
Uneven ground or stairwell? Use the Stairwell Tower with adjustable legs.
Two simultaneous climbers? The 3T is single climb face. The Twin-Access has dual climb faces for two-person work.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does “3T” actually mean?
Through-The-Trapdoor. It’s a build sequence, not a brand. Every section is added from inside the guardrails via the platform trapdoor, so the operator is never standing on an unprotected deck. HSE points to this as the recommended method for mobile access tower assembly.
Do I need PASMA training?
Yes, for work use. PASMA is the UK standard for mobile access tower training, and HSE expects operators to be competent. If you’re a trained operator, 3T will feel familiar because it’s the method PASMA teaches.
What’s the difference between single and double width?
Single is 0.85m wide, double is 1.45m. Single fits tight access. Double gives you usable deck space around the trapdoor and more room to work across. Rung spacing and SWL are the same on both.
Which platform length: 1.8m or 2.5m?
Pick 2.5m when you’re working along a run (rendering, running cable, fitting a long fascia) and don’t want to keep repositioning. Pick 1.8m when access is tight, you’re working in a cluster, or you’ll be rebuilding in a different spot frequently.
Can I go above 10.2m?
Not with this tower. For higher platforms (up to 12.2m+), use the Twin-Access, which also gives you two climb faces for two-person work.
Working height 10.2m: can I reach a 10m wall?
Reaching is different from standing. 10.2m working height means you can work on surfaces up to about 10m with your arms raised from the deck. The platform itself will be at approximately 8.2m.
What’s the difference between 3T and AGR towers?
Both are safe assembly methods. With 3T, you work from inside the guardrails, fitting components through the trapdoor. With AGR (Advance Guard Rail), you clip guardrails to the frame from the platform below before climbing. Both are PASMA-approved. The right choice depends on the tower system your site specifies.
