Power Supply: 110V vs 240V

Most of our breaking and drilling tools are available in 110V (site-safe) or 240V versions. On construction sites in the UK, 110V is the standard requirement for portable power tools — it reduces the risk of electric shock and is required on most managed sites. If you only have a standard 240V domestic supply and need 110V tools, you will need a site transformer. We stock 3kVA and 5kVA transformers and can add one to your hire order.

Not sure which voltage you need? Call us on 020 3375 4048 and we will confirm based on your site setup.

Breaking & Drilling Hire — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a light, medium, and heavy breaker?

Light breakers (around 5–6kg) are best for wall chasing, tile removal, and light demolition where control matters. Medium breakers (10–11kg class) handle concrete walls, blockwork, and moderate floor demolition. Heavy duty road breakers deliver maximum impact for slab breakup, asphalt, and large-scale floor demolition. If you are unsure, tell us the material and thickness and we will recommend the right class.

Do I need a transformer for 110V tools?

If you are working on a construction site with 110V supply already available, no. If you only have standard 240V mains power and need 110V tools, you will need a site transformer. We stock 3kVA and 5kVA transformers — add one to your order or call us for advice.

Are steels and drill bits included?

Breaker steels (chisels and points) are available but are not included in the standard hire price unless agreed. A wear or sharpening charge may apply. Diamond core drill bits and annular cutters for magnetic drills are available separately. Contact us to confirm what is included with your specific hire.

Can I hire a breaker for a residential job in London?

Yes — many of our customers are homeowners or small contractors working on residential renovation projects. We deliver to houses, flats, and residential sites across all London boroughs. Be aware that heavy breaking generates noise and dust — check local authority restrictions for residential areas, particularly around permitted working hours.

How quickly can I get breaking equipment delivered?

Most orders placed before midday qualify for next-day delivery across all London boroughs. For urgent same-day requirements, call 020 3375 4048 and we will check availability.
