What a floor edging sander does
A drum sander does the open floor but sits back from its own body, so it can’t reach the last few inches against the skirting, into corners, around bays or on stairs. The edging sander finishes exactly those areas. Its 7-inch rotary sanding disc works close to the wall, so the perimeter is taken back to bare timber to match the rest of the floor — no untouched border left behind. It is the second machine in a proper floor refurbishment, used after the drum sander.
What the edger is for
The edging sander handles the parts of the floor a drum sander is built to miss.
Edges & skirting — the border the drum can’t reach against the wall.
Corners & bays — tight areas and bay windows where the drum stops short.
Doorways & stairs — thresholds and stair treads that need a smaller machine.
The open floor — that’s the drum sander’s job; the edger finishes the perimeter.
Drum, edger, or both?
Most full-floor jobs need both. Here’s how to decide.
Getting a clean finish
Use the edger after the drum sander, matching the same grit grades so the perimeter blends with the open floor. Keep it moving to avoid swirl marks, and let the weight of the machine do the work rather than pressing down. It’s built to work close to the skirting, but a steady hand still pays off around delicate mouldings. Vac between grades so grit from the last pass doesn’t scratch the next.

Floor edging sander hire — common questions
Why can’t the drum sander do the edges?
Its drum sits back from the body, so it can’t reach the last few inches against the wall or into corners. The edging sander is designed to finish exactly those areas.
Do I use the edger before or after the drum sander?
After. Match your grit grades to the ones you used on the open floor so the perimeter blends in with the rest of the floor.
Do I also need a drum sander?
For a full floor, yes — the edger isn’t built for the open floor. Most people take the pack so they have both machines for less than hiring them separately.
Will it run off a normal mains socket?
Yes — it runs on 230V standard mains, the normal domestic supply. No transformer needed.
How does the hire pricing work?
One-day, two-day and weekly rates, with a reduced day-rate on longer hires. Message the hire desk before your collection date if you need to extend.
