Compact Domestic Dehumidifier Hire — 20L-class
A compact refrigerant dehumidifier for domestic rooms, flats and small occupied spaces. It plugs into a normal wall socket, pulls moisture out of the air, and collects it in a tank (or drains continuously if you connect the hose).
In plain terms: if your bedroom windows are dripping with condensation every morning, your bathroom always smells damp, or you’ve had a small leak fixed and the room still feels wet — this is the unit you’d start with. It won’t dry a whole flat or a building site, but for one room at a time it does the job quietly enough to run overnight.
Common situations where a compact 20L-class unit is a good starting point
These are the jobs customers most often hire this unit for. If your situation sounds different, call us and we’ll tell you whether this is the right size.
It pulls moisture out of the air so your room dries out faster
A dehumidifier doesn’t dry walls directly. It lowers the humidity in the air — and when the air gets drier than the damp surfaces around it, moisture starts moving out of those surfaces (walls, carpet, plaster) and into the air, where the unit can catch it.
Think of it like this: the dehumidifier makes the air “thirsty”, so it soaks up moisture from everything around it. The unit then condenses that moisture and drips it into a tank.
The target is around 45 to 55% relative humidity. That’s where condensation stops forming on windows, musty smells go away, and the conditions that lead to mould are no longer present.

Will it work in your room? Quick guide.
Green means this unit is a natural fit. Amber means it’ll work but you’re pushing it. Red means you probably need a bigger unit.

Selected
38L Commercial Dehumidifier
Studio flats, post-leak drying, plastering support. When one room isn’t the whole job.
43L Compact Industrial Dehumidifier
Compact industrial unit for tight-access flood recovery and refurbishment drying.
63L LGR Industrial Dehumidifier
Low-Grain Refrigerant. Keeps extracting as humidity drops. Flood recovery, contractor use, cold sites.
Rough drying timeline — what happens day by day
This is a rough guide, not a guarantee. How fast your room dries depends on how wet it is, how warm it is, how big it is, and whether the source of moisture has been fixed.
Still wet
Water collecting in the tank. Windows still condensing. Room smells damp.
Air starts clearing
Musty smell begins to lift. Less water on windows in the morning.
Surfaces follow
Walls and soft furnishings start feeling drier to the touch.
Feeling better
Room feels noticeably more comfortable. Condensation mostly gone.
Monitor and hold
Keep running on auto mode. Check humidity before switching off.

Three jobs this unit handles well
This unit isn’t always the right answer.

Questions people ask before hiring this unit
If your question isn’t here, call 020 3375 4048 or WhatsApp us. We’d rather you ask than guess.
Is a 20L unit enough for my whole house?
No. This unit is built for one room at a time — up to about 50 m². If you need to dry multiple rooms, a studio flat, or a whole house, you’ll want the 38L commercial or one of our industrial units. Call us and we’ll tell you which size fits your situation.
Does “20 litres per day” mean it actually removes 20 litres every day?
Not in the real world. That figure comes from a lab test at 30°C and 80% humidity — basically tropical conditions. A normal UK room at 18-22°C is cooler and less humid, so the unit won’t hit that number daily. Think of “20L” as the size class. It tells you this is a compact domestic unit, not an industrial one.
Will it stop condensation on my bedroom windows?
In most cases, yes. Condensation forms when the air is too humid and hits a cold surface like a window. This unit pulls moisture out of the air, so there’s less of it to condense. Most customers see a noticeable difference within 2-3 days. Keep the room door closed while it’s running so it’s only working on that one room.
Can I use it after a leak?
Yes, if the leak has been fixed and any standing water has been mopped up. Put the unit in the affected room, close the door, and let it work. For soaked floors, multiple rooms, or cold spaces, you’ll need something bigger — call us and we’ll recommend the right size.
Can it dry plaster?
It can help, in the right conditions. If the room is warm (above about 15°C), ventilated, and you’ve only replastered a small area, this unit will lower the humidity around the plaster and help it dry faster. For cold rooms, large plastering jobs, or tight contractor deadlines, you’ll need a 38L or industrial unit.
Is it quiet enough to sleep through?
Most people say yes. At around 48 dB it’s roughly the same volume as a fridge. If you connect the continuous drain hose (where supplied), it won’t wake you up by beeping when the tank is full.
What plug does it need?
A normal UK 3-pin plug. Same socket as a kettle or a lamp. No special wiring, no adapters, no electrician needed.
Can it drain continuously so I don’t have to empty the tank?
Yes, a continuous drainage option is typically available (where supplied with the unit). You connect a hose to the back and run it to a drain, sink or bucket. Useful if you’re running it unattended or overnight.
What’s included in the hire?
The dehumidifier, ready to plug in and run. A continuous drain hose may be supplied where available. No assembly needed. If you’re not sure what comes with it, ask us when you book.
Do you deliver to my area?
We deliver across London from our Greenford depot (UB6). Enter your postcode at checkout to see the delivery charge for your area. You can also collect from the depot if you prefer.
This guidance is general and based on typical compact refrigerant dehumidifier performance. How fast your room dries depends on its size, temperature, ventilation, how wet it is, and whether the moisture source has been fixed. A dehumidifier helps reduce moisture in the air — it doesn’t fix leaks, remove existing mould, or solve structural damp. For those issues, get the source fixed first, then use the dehumidifier to dry the room out afterwards. Not sure? Call us or see our full dehumidifier range.
