How it works
What a spray extraction machine actually does
If you have never used one, this is the whole process. It is not a shampooer and it is not a steam cleaner.

You fill the solution tank
22 litres of water mixed with a low-foam extraction detergent. Tap temperature — this machine does not heat.

The wand sprays it into the pile
You squeeze the trigger and solution is injected down into the carpet, loosening the dirt held in the fibres.

The same wand vacuums it straight back
A vacuum slot immediately behind the spray jets pulls the dirty water back out. The dirt leaves the building with the water.

Dirty water collects in the recovery tank
18 litres of it. You tip it down a drain, refill, and carry on. The carpet is left damp, not soaked.

Extraction, shampooing, steam — what is the difference?
These get used interchangeably and they are not the same thing. Knowing which one you actually need saves you a wasted hire.

Read this before you book
Four things worth knowing
Floor wand only
This hire includes the floor wand and hose. There is no upholstery or stair tool with it. If the job involves fabric or steps, you want a different machine.
Unheated
It works at tap temperature. That is fine for routine and traffic-lane soiling. Heat earns its money on grease, and for that you want the hot water machine.
Low-foam chemical only
Use a proper low-foam extraction detergent. Foaming products flood the recovery tank and can reach the vacuum motor, which the deposit does not cover.
Vacuum first
Dry-vacuum the carpet before you extract. Loose grit and hair belong in a vacuum bag, not in the recovery tank or the filter.

More tank, not more suction
What we will not claim
That this machine sucks harder than the 10-litre Kärcher Puzzi most London hire shops stock. It does not. On paper the Puzzi moves slightly more air, and the vacuum figures are level.
What is actually true
It holds roughly twice the water. On one room that is worth nothing. On an office floor, a run of hotel bedrooms or a school corridor, it is the difference between working steadily and spending your shift walking to the nearest tap.
This is an argument about time, not power. If your job is a single room, the smaller machines are genuinely the better hire and we will tell you so on the phone.

How to get a professional result
Follow this order and the carpet comes up evenly and dries in reasonable time. Skip steps and you get streaks, slow drying, or a blocked filter.

Dry-vacuum thoroughly
Everything loose comes out first. Grit and hair turn to sludge the moment they meet water and will block the filter within minutes.

Mix the solution to the dilution on the bottle
More chemical does not clean better. It leaves residue in the pile, and residue attracts dirt straight back.

Test a hidden patch
Behind a door or under furniture. Especially on wool, patterned or older carpet.

Work in overlapping passes, pulling towards you
Spray on the pull stroke. Overlap each pass slightly so you do not leave clean and dirty stripes side by side.

Go back over each run with the spray off
A dry pass pulls out more moisture. This single habit does more for drying time than anything else.

Empty the recovery tank before it is full
A flooded recovery tank is the most common way these machines get damaged, and it is not covered by the deposit.

Get air moving across the carpet
An air mover cuts drying time substantially. Essential if the area has to reopen the same day.

How wet will the carpet be, and for how long?
Extraction always leaves carpet damp. Drying depends on how wet you worked, the carpet and underlay, the room temperature and the airflow, so treat any fixed number you see elsewhere with suspicion. What you can control is this.
Dries fastest

Rule one
Low-foam chemical only, at the label doseFoam is what kills extraction machines. It climbs past the float and reaches the vacuum motor. Ordinary carpet shampoo and washing-up liquid both do it. Overdosing also leaves sticky residue that re-soils the carpet within days.
Rule two
Pull slowly, and finish every pass dryThe manufacturer’s own rule: the more slowly you pull the wand, the deeper the clean. Release the spray trigger about 10 cm before the end of each pass and keep vacuuming, so you never leave a wet strip behind.

Dirty recovery water smells within hours. Drain and rinse the tank the same day, every time.
One caution, every time. Before you disconnect the spray hose, switch the pump off and squeeze the action grip once more to release the pressure left in the line. Skip it and the coupling sprays you and the carpet. It is the manual’s own warning and the most common surprise on this machine.

Two minutes before we collect
Handed back like this, your deposit goes straight back. No questions, no delays.
1. Drain and rinse both tanks
Clean, warm water. Never hand it back with dirty water inside.
2. Rinse the filters
The push-in filter and the fresh-water filter. Wipe the suction foot clear and check the float moves freely.
3. Keep the wand set together
Take it apart, rinse the spray head, and keep wand, hoses and machine as one kit. A missing wand ends the next job.
4. Coil the cable, leave lids open
Coil the 15 m cable loosely, wipe it down, and leave it standing upright with the lids open to dry.
Moving it between floors: tilt it back on its wheels for thresholds. For stairs, empty both tanks and remove the accessories first, then take it step by step. It is 25 kg dry, so two people on a long flight, and never with water aboard.

Commercial carpet extractor hire — common questions
I have never used one. Is it difficult?
No. You fill the tank, plug it in, and pull the wand towards you while squeezing the trigger. The skill is in the order of work rather than the machine itself, and the seven steps above cover it. Ring the hire desk before you start and we will talk you through it.
How is this different from the carpet cleaners most hire shops stock?
Almost every hire shop in London stocks a 10-litre machine. This one holds roughly twice as much, so on large areas you spend far less of the hire walking to a tap. Its suction is comparable, not greater. The gain is capacity and working time.
Can I use it on upholstery or stairs?
Not on this hire. It is supplied with the floor wand only. The hot water carpet cleaner includes an upholstery tool and is the machine for fabric, stairs and car interiors.
Does it heat the water?
No, it is unheated and works at tap temperature. For greasy or heavily soiled carpet where heat genuinely helps, hire the heated machine.
What cleaning solution should I use, and do you supply it?
A low-foam extraction detergent, diluted as directed. Nothing that foams, which rules out washing-up liquid and supermarket carpet shampoos. We do not supply the chemical, but tell us the site and the carpet when you book and we will advise on what to use and roughly how much.
How long will the carpet take to dry?
It depends on how wet you work, the carpet and underlay, room temperature and airflow, so we will not quote a fixed number. Dry passes and an air mover make the biggest difference. Plan for the area to be out of use for a while.
Will it fit in my car?
Usually. It is 25 kg and 80 × 38 × 72 cm, so one person can load it into a boot or estate. Click and Collect from Greenford UB6 is free.
What power supply does it need?
230–240V standard mains, with a 15 m cable so you can usually cover a room from one socket. No transformer, no three-phase.
Is it noisy? Can I use it in an occupied building?
The manufacturer rates it at 66 dB(A), which is conversational level rather than industrial. It is commonly used out of hours in offices and hotels, but check your own site rules on working near occupied rooms.
What is the deposit and when do I get it back?
£150, refundable, plus photo ID. It is released once the machine is checked back in, normally within 2-3 working days.
Can I hire it for longer than a week?
Yes. Hires beyond seven days move to a reduced day rate of £20.99 a day. Message the hire desk before your return date if you need to extend.
Do you deliver, and what does it cost?
Yes, across London from our Greenford depot. Standard delivery and collection is £35, with priority before 11am and same-day available on selected West London routes. The price is shown on this page rather than quoted later.
Can I hire on a Saturday and return Sunday?
We are closed on Sundays, so a Saturday hire comes back on the Monday and is charged as a two-day hire. The calendar will not let you select a Sunday.
Do I need to clean it before it comes back?
Empty and rinse the recovery tank, and empty the filter. That is all we ask. It saves a cleaning charge and gets your deposit back faster.
